Best photos for cyanotype printing

The best custom cyanotype prints start with images that have clear light, recognizable shapes, and enough resolution for the chosen size.

Choose strong contrast

Portraits, pets, architecture, flowers, travel photographs, and old family images work best when the subject is clearly separated from the background.

Use enough resolution

For A4 and larger sizes, use a sharp original file with a long edge of at least 3000 px or a high-quality 300 DPI scan when possible.

Avoid tiny screenshots

Screenshots, heavily compressed social-media images, and dark blurry photos may not hold enough detail. The studio may request a replacement file before production.

Think about crop

Leave a little room around the subject. This helps the studio create a balanced cyanotype crop with generous margins.
